WALKING FOR PLEASURE

NOVEMBER 2007 NEWSLETTER

HAVERING AND EAST LONDON RAMBLERS

SECRETARY’S REPORT

The Christmas lunch was enjoyed by thirty members at the Whitmore Arms, Orsett on 12 December. The Christmas dinner at the Alma Arms, Navestock on 8 December was, I believe, also successful. Thanks are due to Norman and Sandra for organising these events. Flowers were presented to Sandra (at the Alma Arms) and Mary (at the Whitmore Arms) on their resignations, in recognition of their services to the group. Eleven members from Havering and East London attended the Essex Area AGM on 2 February 2008.

An issue we raised was the change in format to future WALK BRITAIN publications. It appeared that the accommodation guide would be dropped, but we are now informed that this is not so. The motion forwarded to Head Office is "The General Council regrets the lack of consultation to change the format of WALK BRITAIN".

The Committee have agreed to amalgamate the functions of the Countryside Officer and Footpath Secretary into three main geographical areas that make up the Havering and East London Group, i.e. Newham, Barking and Dagenham and Havering.   If any member has a problem concerning the countryside or footpaths within these areas, they should contact:

Sidonie Stevens for              Newham

Michael Cullen for                Barking and Dagenham

Peter O'Neill for                Havering

I receive many brochures of holidays in Britain and overseas. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you are at all interested in walking holidays.
